About Us
The Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry began as an outreach ministry of the First United Methodist Church in 2004. Housed in the After School classroom of Jackson-Via Elementary School through 2011, the pantry saw significant growth in the number of clients served and food distributed since its inception.
To expand fundraising efforts and to accommodate the ever-increasing need in the Charlottesville area, steps were initiated in 2011 to make the pantry a non-profit, tax-exempt organization. The application for this new operation was granted in March, 2011, and Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry, Inc. came into being.
In January 2012, Loaves & Fishes opened in in a new facility on Greenbrier Drive in order to better serve our clients. We have expanded with coolers and freezers that allow us to increase the nutritional value of the groceries that we provide to our growing client base.
